Here’s the spread. I haven’t provided drinks, so pop the kettle on and enjoy with a cuppa!
- Marlow Brown: Magician in the Making was launched in July between lockdowns at the Melbourne Magic Festival by magician Lee Cohen. (Pictures above).
- I’ve been on a 3 month virtual book tour with a great little company called Books On Tour. (I’d highly recommend them to any authors who’d like a bit of help with their PR and Marketing.) The link above takes you to a full round-up of all the activities and virtual destinations that made up the tour. In the process I ‘virtually’ met all sorts of lovely people in the children’s writing industry here in Australia. If any of my hosts happen to be reading this, thank you for having me!
- There have been a couple of news articles in the media – one in the Melbourne Observer and the other in Eastsider News.
- I’ve written two guest posts for Kids’ Book Review: How Not to Perform Magic and Look What I’m Reading!
- There’s a new section on my website — The Magic Spot — for kids and trick lovers. It’s lots of fun so do check it out. (Demonstration videos by the talented Oscar Owen included.)
- I’ve also written a blog — How to Give Yourself and the Arts Community a Boost in the Pandemic — or at anytime really! (It’s all about libraries and how you can influence what goes onto the shelves.)
- There have been several lovely reviews of Magician in the Making which has been very pleasing.
- Specialist children’s bookshop The Little Bookroom in North Fitzroy, as well as Camberwell Dymocks are now stocking my books. Hooray! (They also do free deliveries for people in the Melbourne metro so if this is you, this is the fastest way to get hold of your own copies – or of any other books you might be interested in. Christmas is just around the corner and it’s always good to support local businesses, I think.)
- Teacher notes for both books are on the way. They’ve been put together by writer/teacher Vanessa Ryan-Rendall and will be really handy for classroom use. I will send out a quick update when I’ve formatted them and put them up on the website. (Next job!)
- Last month I did a writing workshop for 7-11-year-olds for Casey Cardinia Libraries for Science Week which was lots of fun if a little nerve wracking, (being my first time running something like this online). Running a writing workshop online is a completely different kettle of fish from doing an online author talk or interview, and even more so from running one in person – but it seemed to work well and the children and I enjoyed ourselves!
- And last but certainly not least, I’m honoured to have been asked to be a judge for the Forevability Book Awards, a fantastic new initiative showcasing books related to disability, illness, inclusion or own voice. If you’ve written a book like this, or are looking for books of this type, make sure you check out the Forevablility website.
