The poem was written first and was inspired by my son, who at the time was a pre-schooler. ‘Where’s a bug’s ears, Mummy?’ he asked, as I hung out the washing. I didn’t know the answer. After writing the poem, I vowed I’d find out.
It was quite a few years later that I finally wrote the article which answered his question. Fortunately, by that stage, my son was old enough to understand my explanation.
